A Sign for the Times
Starting a business is hard. The amount of decisions that need to be made is overwhelming. From naming your company and creating a branding strategy to location, website, social media and marketing, having go-to partners is critical. No man or woman is an Island so the old adage that it takes a village to succeed is definitely true.
For Linda and I, when we opened our business we needed to have a variety of signs made. We put the feelers out and started asking around. We knew we wanted to support a local business where we could establish a relationship and they would know us, our objectives and would provide personal service. In our search for the right partner, Yellow Dog was a name that came up repeatedly, so we knew we needed to call them up and have a discussion around our needs. From For Sale signs to Open House signs to our interior wall signs, Yellow Dog has been our go-to partner for every sign need we’ve needed so far. They even did the die cut vinyl stickers for our front door.
Here’s a bit of background:
Rick Watson is the Founder and Owner of Yellow Dog Signs & Graphics. Yellow Dog is a local, family run business that makes signs and graphics for anyone and everyone in the central valley. When reflecting back on their 17 years of business, Rick had the following to say:
“We began in 1999 as a franchise of Speedpro SignsPlus. Once we were able to split off on our own, we decided to rename and rebrand ourselves. Yellow Dog was one of the names we came up with while brainstorming, but we dismissed it because it seemed silly to just name it after our dogs. As we were filtering down our list, we kept coming back to the name as it was catchier and more memorable than the rest. We ended up going with that because it actually seemed to represent us more than a corporate or generic sounding name. It was creative, different and stood out from all the rest, which were also qualities we felt people would want in their own signs. Plus the logo is both cool and cute so we had to become Yellow Dog.”
“As far as what exactly we do, well it’s a wide gamut. The short answer is everything below electric signs and above business cards are our area of expertise. This includes wood, metal & plastic signs, banners, trade show signage, magnetics event signs and vinyl lettering. These can all be simple one color signs or something that if full color and includes pictures. If you give us a little bit of a direction on what you’re looking for, we can recommend materials what would be best to use and design it for you. If you aren’t graphically inclined it’s ok. We’ve had people bring in stick figures sketched on a napkin as our starting artwork and we had no problem making it work.”
“Something that has become more popular over the past 5 years is vehicle wraps. We can put vinyl on your car/truck to give you moving billboard to advertise everywhere you go. We find some people are a little freaked out about covering their entire vehicle with vinyl and that is why we also do partial wraps which just means we don’t cover everything, just part of the car. Some examples of this can be just wrapping that tailgate of a truck, the back half on the sides of a van or just logos on your doors.”
Our design Virtuoso is Rick’s wife, Heather. Heather has created some fabulous designs for us based on nothing more than a phone call. After using Yellow Dog now for 3 years, we’ve found them to be personable, professional and efficient. They are our go-to partner and Linda and I could not be more pleased about that. In fact recently, with the establishment of our Make Impact™ Fund, Yellow Dog just made us a giant check which was printed on whiteboard material that we can write in the charity we are donating to with a Dry-Erase marker. They really can make pretty much anything.
If you need any sort of sign, banner or, well, you name it, give Yellow Dog a call and ask for Heather. You’ll be happy you did.
